Why do I want to explore sibling relationships, you may ask?

What interested me the most through my experiments? Gaining a better understanding of my distinct relationship with my two brothers, uncovering an answer through existing psychological research that can hopefully not only leave me with greater knowledge and closure, but my audience as well.Throughout the semester, I conducted three genre experiments, all of which attempted to tackle the daunting question: “What influences the nature of our sibling relationships?

Experiment 1: In the beginning, I tried to answer this question through poetry. However, despite doing the proper genre research and putting in the effort to write a successful poem, I realized whether this was a good poem or not, it doesn’t matter. It didn’t answer my driving question.

Experiment 2: Next, I dabbled with a photo essay. This was no doubt a bold choice, considering that I had never created a photo essay before, and was only able to include past photos of my brothers and me. While I enjoyed working with photography, I also realized that in order to answer my large question about my own sibling relationship, in a way others could understand and connect to, I would need to include more writing.

Experiment 3: Lastly, I wrote the start of a journalistic article, including elements of content research and personal experience. My final experiment was by far my favorite because I felt like I walked away from it with more vision and understanding of my driving question, than I had in the experiments before. Experiment 3 was what inspired this final project.

I hope you enjoy!
