The holiday season definitely looked a little different this year. No matter what you celebrate, you most likely had to do it without those big gatherings of friends and family. For as long as I can remember, the holidays have been my absolute favorite time of the year. In Chicago at least, the weather is cold, snow is falling, and it doesn't get cozier than fireplaces and comfort food.
This year has been all about shifting expectations. When celebrating the holidays at home, with just your immediate household or close family, it can be hard to make the occasion feel special. After months of family dinners in your sweats, who's to say Christmas will feel any different?
Oh, but it can. It doesn't matter how small or informal the gathering may be, there is always a way to spice things up. Nothing a fancy charcuterie board can't fix.
So grab your favorite cheeses, some fresh green herbs and red cranberries for garnishing and let's put the special back into special occasions.
